Service Description
Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m) Distance: 7km Hiking: 4h Elevation Gain: +550m Goes through the lush rainforest zone. The trail is scenic with diverse flora and fauna. You camp at Mti Mkubwa Camp. Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m) to Shira 1 Camp (3550m) Distance: 8km Hiking Time: 6h Elevation Gain: +900m You enter the heathland zone. Then through a lush forest before transitioning to a more open moorland. Shira 1 Camp is located on the western edge of the Shira Plateau. Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3550m) to Shira 2 Camp (3840m) Distance: 7km Hiking: 4h Elevation Gain: +290m Trek across the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude desert. The landscape is characterized by volcanic rock formations and sparse vegetation. Shira 2 Camp offers panoramic views of the plateau and the summit. Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3840m) to Barranco Camp (3950m) via Lava Tower (4630m) Distance: 10km Hiking: 8h Elevation Gain: +790m (to Lava Tower), -680m (to Barranco Camp) Crucial day for acclimatization. You ascend to Lava Tower, a notable landmark at 4630m, then descend to Barranco Camp. The descent helps with acclimatization by exposing you to higher altitudes before sleeping at a lower altitude. Day 5: Barranco Camp (3950m) to Karanga Camp (3995m) Distance: 5km Hiking: 5h Elevation Gain: +45m Challenging Barranco Wall, a steep rock face that requires some scrambling. After climbing the wall, you cross several valleys and ridges to reach Karanga Camp. Day 6: Karanga Camp (3995m) to Barafu Camp (4673m) Distance: 4 km Hiking Time: 5 hours Elevation Gain: +678m Continues through an alpine desert to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the final ascent. The landscape becomes increasingly barren. The afternoon is spent resting and preparing for the summit attempt. Day 7: Barafu Camp (4673m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) and descent to Mweka Camp (3100m) Distance: 17km (6 km ascent and 11 km descent) Hiking: 10-14h Elevation Gain: +1222m (ascent), -2795m (descent) The summit attempt begins around midnight. The trail is steep and challenging, passing through Stella Point (5739m) before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.After reaching the summit, you descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Day 8: Mweka Camp (3100m) to Mweka Gate (1630m) Distance: 10km Hiking: 4h Elevation Loss: -1470m Final descent takes you through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. At the gate you receive certificate of achievement.
